Doug Andonian, born and raised in Massachusetts where his early life was shaped by discipline, responsibility, and hard work. Doug first encountered Sub Saharan Africa, as a child, through the pages of a borrowed magazine. What began as insatiable curiosity never lost its allure. It followed him through adulthood, a successful business career, and the steady rhythm of an otherwise ordinary life. Through it all Africa, ever present, patiently waited.
When Doug found himself in a position to travel to Africa and set foot in the vastness of the African bush, among lions, elephants, leopards, and a never ending array of magnificent wildlife and stunning landscapes, he discovered the raw unpredictability of a place the pages of that borrowed magazine could never have prepared him for. He experienced fear, never before confronted. Surprisingly, from it evolved a strange but welcome peace. Africa became much more than a destination. Doug had found himself, once again, in school.
From Where Lions Speak is the culmination of that journey. It discusses peace, purpose, fear, and the quiet power of simply listening.
“The adventure I sought in Africa ultimately led to a sense of belonging.”
